I’ve been writing for months about the unfolding challenges confronting Big Law and the lawyers who work there. It is understandable why most Big Law lawyers would rather not acknowledge what is happening—confronting the possibility of salary reductions, layoffs, and ultimately, a jobless recovery, is unpleasant.

Given the times we are in, we all have been assaulted with self-doubt to one degree or another. If you are a lawyer or other professional who has been laid off, the feelings of self-doubt might very well be larger than life itself. And it’s all rational. For high achievers across the board—including lawyers, developers, investment bankers, sales people—fortunes have evaporated, opportunities seem nonexistent, and no one really knows what to do next.
